Real Southern Quotes: On Pigs, Likker and Taters

quote_button2I was just watching a fascinating documentary on the Documentary Channel titled Mountain Talk. The film, as you might imagine, is about that unique brand of Twanglish found in Southern Appalachia. I’m sure I’ll post more quotes later, but here are a few gems:

“You can sell a jar of likker when you cain’t sell a bushel of taters.”

“We eat everything on the pig but the squeal.”

“When you’d go over there, you wouldn’t ask, ‘Who’s sellin’ likker?’ You’d ask, ‘Who’s got the best?’ Because they were all moonshinin’.”

“You ain’t never ate no squirrel? Well, shoot! You ain’t lived high on the hog, then.”
