Southern Sweets Showdown Play-in: #17 Monkey Bread vs. #16 Raisin Pie

The second play-in matchup of the inaugural Southern Sweets Showdown is features a long-forgotten family gem and a recently commercialized treat with a funny name.

It’s a match-up of the 16 and 17 seeds from the Pies, Cobblers & Dumplings Region: Raisin Pie and Monkey Bread, respectively. Frankly, we’re not sure what monkey bread is, but since it seems cobbled and dumpled, it makes more sense in this region than, say … Missouri in the SEC.

But let’s not allow football talk to sully the moment.

For scouting reports on the two competitors, check out RSM Jerrod Brown’s history of the depression-era family recipe that led him to the discovery of raisin pie and RSM Wayne Franklin’s exploration of the oddity that is monkey bread.

Then head over to our Facebook page and decide who is more worthy to move on to the first round.
