A Real Southern Man is… #6

 

How do you define a Real Southern Man? We’d love to hear your comments. But first…

Today’s entry of “A Real Southern Man is…” is so stereotypical and clichéd that we almost didn’t include it. On the other hand, it is so much a part and parcel of who we are as Southerners, that it’s almost inescapable. Any listing of the Southern qualities that excluded the South’s favorite contraction would be incomplete. So, here goes…

“A Real Southern Man has the ability to pepper his speech with ‘y’all’ and knows its correct spelling.” -Brett, RSM reader

It may be improper. Some may consider it uncouth, but damned if it isn’t the most charming word on the planet. One good “y’all” from the mouth of a sweet Southern girl, and any red-blooded American man goes weak in the knees. So y’all pass the sweet tea and biscuits or, better yet, a good Kentucky mint julep. It’s time to toast the South’s favorite word!
