A Real Southern Man is… #4

 

How do you define a Real Southern Man? We’d love to hear your comments. But first…

Today’s entry of “A Real Southern Man is…” is all about flavor. It’s the flavor Southern men and women want on a hot summer day. It’s the flavor they crave with a dinner “on the grounds” at a country Baptist church. It’s the flavor no good Southern gathering – be it wedding, funeral, birthday party or a church supper on the grounds – should ever be without.

And we don’t mean sweetener packets dumped into a glass of unsweetened iced tea, either. A late friend who knew Billy Bob Thornton once told a story about sharing lunch with him in Los Angeles. Thornton took a swig of his drink, grimaced and said, “People out here think everybody from the South is stupid, but they can’t seem to get it through their heads that sugar don’t dissolve in cold tea.” Truer words…
