These are the Southerners you’re looking for

They may be fathers or football coaches, raconteurs or rocket scientists, craftsmen or criminals, Civil War heroes or Civil Rights pioneers. No matter their occupation, their identities are forever intertwined with the South – each leaving its mark on the other until they and the South became synonymous. They need not have been born in the South, nor died in the South’s warm, humid embrace. They only need to have that certain imprint of Southerness on their life and worldview.

Every week, we’ll bring you new Real Southern Men Profiles – short biographies of the men who, for better or worse, have made the South what it is today.  The portraits won’t always be flattering, but in some way, everyone featured here will be a Real Southern Man.
