RSMU – Week 4 Picks

Another week, another great slate of Southern football. Before we kill this horse and keep beating it for the sheer pleasure of it, let’s get to the games:
This week’s games:
Maryland at West Virginia
Virginia at TCU
Ole Miss at Tulane
Miami at Georgia Tech
Missouri at South Carolina
Louisville at Florida International
Memphis at Duke
Clemson at Florida State
Rutgers at Arkansas
Troy at North Texas
LSU at Auburn
And now the picks:
Jerrod Brown
Maryland @ WVU
Geno and WVU will run away with this one. At least UM will offer some uniform entertainment.Virginia @ TCU
TCU brings one of the best NCAA mascots into this one against the Cavaliers, expect the Horned Frogs to leave the game with a win in this one.

Ole Miss @ Tulane
Oh my, do we even have to watch this one? The Rebels should win this one in an ugly battle.

Miami @ Ga Tech
The U is struggling. I have to stick with the old school triple option attack of the Rambling Wreck.

Mizzou @ South Carolina
USC wins the battle of the Columbias. Mizzou makes a good showing, but they still have a long way to go in understanding tough SEC football.

Louisville @ FIU
Louisville is looking tough this year. FIU out of the Sun Belt will not be able to hang in there with the Cardinals.

Memphis @ Duke
This would be an interesting game if this were Basketball. It is not. Duke in a snoozer!

Clemson @ Florida State
I once had a Communications class with Dabo Swinney at Bama. Roll Dabo! Clemson in an upset.

Rutgers @ Arkansas
Arkansas has imploded, but things aren’t bad enough that they cannot beat the Scarlet Knights.

Troy @ North Texas
Gotta go with the Trojans in this one. However, you’ve gotta love the UNT mascot– The Mean Green.

LSU @ Auburn
Ugly. Early. Blowout. Hot seat. Chizik.

Nicklaus Louis
Nicklaus is unable to pick the games this week. Unfortunately, he has sold his soul to the evil of corporate America in order to feed his newborn child and is currently shackled to a video camera somewhere in the bowels of the money hungry beast. He was able to get this message to us here at RSM by training a rat to act as a carrier rodent. He wishes to convey his most sincere apologies as he knows you, dear readers, visit the site every weekend solely to lap up copious amounts of his vast football knowledge. And he asks only that you pray for mojo.

Sure, they’re in a conference where the nearest member is four states and half the country away. Sure, they’re town had to pass a law banning the burning of couches after victories. Sure, they’re in the land of Dancin’ Outlaw Jesco White. But that doesn’t mean they can’t play ball.
Geno Smith and company should’ve been in the SEC, but today this former Big East, satellite Big 12 member will show the ACC that Geno Smith is on his way to the Heisman ceremony.
Mountaineers 45 – Terrapins 12
Virginia @ TCU
Again, the ACC loses a non-conference game. TCU is for real and will sling it all over the field early and run it out late against the Cavaliers.
Horned Frogs 38 – Cavaliers 3
Ole Miss @ Tulane
I have to agree with Jerrod. This would be the worst game of the day, if not for Memphis and Duke. Ole Miss wins, but it won’t be worth watching.
Rebels 17 – Tulane 7
Miami @ Ga Tech
I’ve picked the triple option every time this season, and I’ll do it again. The Ramblin’ Wreck does it all in Bobby Dodd stadium.
Yellowjackets 52 – Hurricanes 13
Mizzou @ South Carolina
This first matchup of new annual conference (and divisional) rivals will prove to be a good one. I don’t think Mizzou is ready for a whole season on “Old Man Football,” but it’s early still. I’m taking the Tigers in the upset.
Tigers 28 – Gamecocks 27
Louisville @ FIU
The Cardinals win easy.
Cardinals 35 – Golden Panthers 14
Memphis @ Duke
This could be painful to watch. Or do two really bad teams make for a good game? I won’t be watching to find out.
Blue Devils 17 – Tigers 13
Clemson @ Florida State
This is the class of the games listed here. Two highly ranked teams. Only the 9th meeting of ranked teams in the ACC. (Seriously? The SEC and Big 12 have about that many every year!) It’s a tough pick for an Alabama guy: a Saban acolyte (who played at my wife’s alma mater) versus a Bama grad. Then again, the Saban acolyte did coach at Auburn… I’m going with Dabo.
Fighting Dabos 31 – Warring Jimbos 30
Rutgers @ Arkansas
The Hogs bounce back from the embarrassing loss to La. Monroe and the bloodletting against Alabama. Tyler Wilson will take out his frustration of having to ride the pine last week on the Scarlet Knights.
Razorbacks 48 – Scarlet Knights 28
Troy @ North Texas
The Mean Green are struggling on defense this year. They will again today.
Trojans 38 – Mean Green 21
LSU @ Auburn
Tigers vs. Tigers. That’s pretty much all these two teams have in common this year. Auburn is in disarray. LSU is on a mission. Look for a repeat of last year.
LSU 45 – Auburn 6

    OK – so I don’t follow most of these teams – but what the heck is Monroe LA doing? Watched that game last night against my Baylor Bears – and about had a heart attack! Good grief! K
