It’s our final matchup of a 2-seed versus a 15-seed.
This matchup comes from the Pies, Cobblers & Dumplings region, pitting the #2 seed Peach Cobbler against the feisty underdog, #15 Coconut Cream Pie.
Peaches are staple of Southern summer life. Whether you’re from one of the dueling peach states of Georgia and South Caroline or other peach-growing regions in the South like Chilton County, Alabama (hello, giant peach water tower), you’re never far away from farm-fresh peaches in the South. And with all those fresh peaches around, it’s only natural that they’re going to get cooked down, sweetened and cobbled with dough until they’re that deliciously gooey concoction known as Peach Cobbler.
On the other hand, there’s that tropically inspired upstart, Coconut Cream Pie. There are two types of great barbecue restaurants in the South: the hole-in-the-wall, stripped down, rib joint variety, and the kind that have a cooler full of coconut cream pies. Here in Birmingham, it’s a toss-up as to which restaurant has the best pie, but we’re more than willing to try all of them to be sure.
Of course the best coconut cream pie is the kind you make at home … or, better yet, the kind you’re loving wife makes for you. (Yes, that was a hint.)
